Stop Water Damage Before It Starts
1. Thoroughly inspect all roof and body seams. Ask your RV dealer for sealants compatible with different types of materials and what they reccomend to use on your RV.
2. Find the location of water related items like the water heater, furnace, potable water fill and water inlet on the outside of the RV and then access those areas from the inside of the RV and look for signs of water damage around these openings.
3. Look for signs of water damage around any openings on the ceiling around roof vents, air conditioners, TV antennas and plumbing vents.
4. Open the overhead cabinets and look in the top corner where the walls meet the ceiling for any water damage or feel for any soft spots. This means there is a leak at the seam where the sidewall and the roof attach.
5. Look for any discoloration, water damage or wrinkles in the wallpaper, and feel for any soft spots on the walls around all openings such as, windows, doors, vents, slide outs, etc.
6. Often times, class C motor homes leak in the cab-over bed area. Look for any signs of discoloration and feel for soft spots. Reach under the mattress and feel for water or soft spots.
7. Look and feel on the outside of the RV for signs of delaminating. This happens when water gets between the exterior fiberglass and the sidewall, thus the fiberglass separates from the sidewall. You can stand at the front or rear of the RV and look down the side for bubbles.
8. Check the outside storage compartments for any indications of water damage.
9. Lastly, don’t just inspect your RV for water damage, REALLY inspect your RV for water damage. This will save you lot's of money in the long run!
