Thanks. We start here in Misssouri and in Kansas oct. 1st/ Oklahoma is nov. 1st/ I moved up here to Missouri in feb. and got in on the short spring season they have. I have got land aquired to hunt here now that has possibilities. No baiting like in Oklahoma, saves me money on corn and attractants. lol I have bow hunted for over 20 years, and have to give it up now due to heath problems. So it means I have to gun hunt deer now if I want any venison. Cant afford to deer hunt in Kansas, it costs too much for turkey too, but thats my fav. I have a life time lic. in Oklahoma so it dont cost me any fees. Its only 13 dollars here for 2 turkey tags each season and 7 dollars to shoot me a doe. And I got plenty of them in my yard every day. lol Kinda wish I could still use a bow, 19 dollars for 2 deer and 2 turkeys here, on 1 permit. Other than all the restrictions its realy cost saving. Of course I live in the lower counties where they dont have rack restrictions for now.

I did notice the nonresident license fees in Kansas are pretty steep. Oh well, we got some big bucks here in Iowa!

Yeah you do. I found in Kansas, you got to lease if you want some good deer, or pay a outfitter. I turkey hunt on the walk-in land the state has each season. But that is even getting less and less each year too. Peps up there are getting more money leasing their land for turkey season than the state gives them to let it be hunted. In Okla. I got several hundreds of acres of privite land to hunt, so I dont have to fight the crowds. Here in Missouri, I have gathered bout 300 acres of privite land so far. But you got to pay attention to all the regs to stay legal. Like where my house is, I can take one doe, and go south to the next county and take one buck. If I go north the buck has to have 4pts or more on one side to harvest. So far, the land I have to hunt, I can get two does and one buck with a gun. In Okla, you get three does and one buck with a gun too. When I bow hunted, I took 4-6 of my deer with a bow, and only 1-2 with any gun, mainly b.p. though.

Wow. All the different regulations, rules, licenses, permits, etc. Hunting has come along way from being a necessity to survive to the government telling people when, how, where and what they can hunt. Just another way to make a buck! Ok, enough of my rant now!

Im with you on that! When I get asked bout paying to hunt on land, I laugh cuz I will never pay to do so. Nor would I pay someone to take me. It has became such a racket anymore, its no longer the hunt for food its the trophy for the wall. I watch those guys on t.v. kill moose, elk, bear and etc. but dont see the meat coming out with em, just the head or cape. I would like to see the guy carry out his kill by himself. A bud of mine put in for a elk hunt and got drawn. When he got out there, he realized that if he shot one, he had to carry it out 2 miles, so he shot one and lost it?

See, I mostly just fish right now, but I'm getting into bow hunting. I chose bow hunting because to me it's more "hands on" than using a gun as I do it not to hang antlers on the wall, but it's more to fulfill that primitive urge in me (oh and the meat tastes great)! And dragging a carcas two miles would definitely help me fullfill that primitive urge! lol
