A camping kit is an important item for those who want to be able to head to the great outdoors in a minute's notice. The camping kit can be stored in your truck or car and will contain all the essential items for a great camping trip.

The camping kit itself should be a plastic lock box; therefore, it will be light weight and it will keep the contents in place. The box used for the camping kit can be found at local sporting good stores. Each of the items listed below are things that should be found in your camping kit. Typically, they can be found at any local store or sporting goods store.

The camping kit should contain the following basic items:

  1. Cook stove - Coleman is a great brand. The stove can use propane or white fuel.
  2. Headlamps, flashlights or a lantern
  3. Plates and cups for eating
  4. Flatware for eating
  5. Tin foil
  6. Liquid soap for washing dishes
  7. Heavy pads for scrubbing pots - Brillo pads are great choices.
  8. Dishcloth (2)
  9. Hand towels
  10. Spices, including the basics such as salt and pepper
  11. Grill for use an the campfire
  12. Cooking utensils with long handles that will not get hot to the touch.
  13. Duct Tape
  14. Rope – 25 to 50 feet in length.
  15. Twine – for tarps
  16. Playing cards (2 decks)
  17. Games such as a board for cribbage
  18. Oven - Either a reflector or camp stove oven
  19. Hatchet
  20. Bow or folding saw
  21. Trash can bags
  22. Sandwich and quart size baggies
  23. Matches and lighter
  24. Paper for the toilet (sometimes the hole in the ground toilets don't come with toilet paper)
  25. Extra stakes for the tent
  26. Fuel funnel
  27. Kit to repair the tent
  28. Bowl for mixing food items

Keep this list taped to the inside lid of your camping kit. Thus, you can quickly check to see that you have all the items in your camping kit before you leave.

As seen on the list above, the camping kit also contains dishtowels. The dishtowel is a great way to store your flatware and let it dry after washing it.

Utensils to consider adding in the camping kit include:

  1. Forks (8)
  2. Spoons (8)
  3. Knives (8)
  4. Spoons for soup (8)
  5. Knives for steak (4)
  6. Spatula
  7. Spoon (large)
  8. Spoon (large with holes)

Once you have your camping kit complete, you can go camping at anytime. Preparation is the key to camping and this camping kit makes preparation a breeze.
