Deer Hunting Secrets
Discover The Closely Guarded True Secrets Of Master Deer Hunters.

Similar to most sports, deer hunting can revolve around the idea of achieving a trophy. The trophy deer can be mounted on the wall in any hunter's home with pride. Most hunters strive to find the woods where the trophy deer can be located. However, it is equally important to know if your deer is, indeed, a trophy deer.

Hunting can occur on deer farms or preserves.

In those locations, there is ample opportunity for trophy deer to be found. For example, in the Illinois and Ohio Valleys, there are many trophy deer. This is due in part to the number of farms in the area and the rigid deer hunting laws. Specifically, it is illegal to hunt a young buck if it scores under 125 inches. Consequently, most deer in the area range around 208 inches. A true trophy.

In addition, many of the deer found on deer farms quickly become trophy deer because of their food source.

They are fed protein that increases the size of their rack. Consequently, deer in certain areas have a much larger rack than other deer, who feed on vegetation sources alone.

Hunting a trophy deer can differ based on the type of deer (as much as the location of the deer).

So, a mule deer will be larger than a whitetail - although both can produce a trophy deer.

Typically, the size of a deer is determined by a system of points.

The points are based on measurements taken from points on the deer antlers. Strict laws monitor the way in which the point system is used in measuring the deer.

To determine whether you have a trophy deer, you must figure out the points in each antler.

This is done by measuring the distance the points are from the main beam. Then, the three spreads and all other points must be measured. These distance must be added to the circumference of the main branch. After all the calculations are made, the deer receives a point ranking.

Each species of deer has a point ranking that will determine whether it is indeed a trophy deer. Some hunters will only hunt a trophy deer. They try to calculate the points before they take the shot. Other hunters are less particular and enjoy the hunt without worrying about the points.
